As the water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) sector seeks to support progress quickly towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), several beneficial tools have been developed to foster progress. One is to develop Master Plans that provide a roadmap for how a set of partners; including government, NGOs, private sector, donors, and other stakeholders; can provide their contributions and move together towards a shared vision.

Reflections from strengthening creditworthiness of water utilities in Rwanda under Isoko y'Ubuzima

It was fascinating to sit in a room with rural water operators who carry the daily responsibility of running small piped water systems, often serving between 300 and 1,000 connections. These operators are at the frontline of ensuring reliable water services. They read meters, collect payments, repair leaks, manage staff, and respond when systems fail. The continuity of water services in rural communities depends on their work.

Since 2019, IRC and the Ethiopian Water Technology Institute (EWTI) have formalised their collaboration with a partnership set out to support the delivery of sustainable WASH services in Ethiopia; strengthening institutional capacity in a systematic way.
